Career Day

Yesterday was Career Day!  First graders learned about the responsibilities of a: surveyor, engineer, marine, and teacher.
What a great time!

Just a reminder: Our field trip to the Polar Caves is on Monday.

-        Kids should come in with a lunch, snack and 2 drinks. If they signed up for lunch, a bag lunch with water will be provided.  Your child will still need a snack and drink.

-        If your child will be purchasing a school lunch we need to put the order in by Friday.  The choices are cheese sandwich or ham and cheese sandwich.

-        Lunches should include any necessary utensils.

-        No glass please.

-        We will not be going to the Gift Shop.  Please do not send in money.

-        Students should wear sneakers or hiking shoes.

-        The bus will leave at 8:35am.

-        We will return at approximately 2:15pm.

-        If you wish for your child to wear sunscreen or bug spray please apply at home.

Rock Shop

This week we finished pricing the rocks for the rock shop.
We took the price we paid for them and discussed the value
of each type of rock.

Yesterday we made labels for the rock shop, and figured out which job each student will have in the rock shop. Students also learned the shift they will be working.

Next week we will rock n' roll in the Rockin' Rock Shop!  Classes will view the rock shop on Tuesday and we will officially open Wednesday morning.

First Grade this Week

Poetry

Circle Poems, Acrostic Poems, Alliteration, oh my!  First graders have been reading and writing poetry.  They've explored a variety of types of poetry.  They've even used poetry to work on building their fluency.  Poetry is great for this!

Here is a great website for Poetry.  Poetry4Kids
